GOP - "Party of No" - Not such a bad thing?

Maybe if the GOP truly adopted the mantra or slogan of "The Party of No" from this day forward - they would become the party of choice for thinking, budget-minded and security-minded Americans.

Here is a platform I might start to believe in:
  • NO more debt - PERIOD!
  • NO raising of the debt ceiling - not another dollar.
  • NO more shady back-room deals
  • NO more unfunded mandates (like NCLB)
  • NO more taxes (or hidden fees!!!)
  • NOT ONE MORE Democrat-Lite candidate endorsed by the DC GOP committees - there are enough of them on the other side of the aisle!  WE must be different!  Otherwise we are like so many churches who have moved from the convictions of their faith an heritage in order to appease an increasingly secular and twisted society - hence - no one takes them seriously.  BE REPUBLICANS!  REPUBLICANS are CONSERVATIVES if they are being true to the name.
  • NO more acting as if you do NOT have a standard of honor, thrift and decency to uphold in your public AND personal lives.
  • NO more pretending that this country was not a DIVINE EXPERIMENT founded by remarkable men on Judeo/Christian principles with the guarantee of religious freedom and tolerance.
  • NO MORE timid voices - it is time to be STRONG for the American people.  We need stouthearted men and women of conviction - not milquetoast mealy-mouthed politicians.   STAND UP!  Even if you are a minority - your voices should ring from the roof tops that YOU will stand for the American people and TRUE progress that we can be proud to pass  to the next generation.
  • NO civilian trials and lawyers for enemy combatants - PERIOD!
  • NOT another year without serious immigration reform!
  • NOT another year without a major security focus on our southern border.
  • NO earmarks of any kind, for anyone, for any purpose.
  • NO major REFORM legislation passed until unemployment is below 6% for at least 3 years.
  • NO more unnecessary regulations on small business and a line by line review and repeal of existing ones until enterpeneurs once again have the energy and freedom to build our economy and create jobs in our own neighborhoods - that people can WALK to - even if they don't have much.

  • NO federal pension for Senators or Representatives - PERIOD! You need to build 401Ks like everyone esle and suffer the rise and fall of the economy like everyone else.  Otherwise you are just a members of a federal UNION that will bankrupt us further.
Well that's my list of "NO's" for now.  What did I miss?  What do you think?

EVERY SEAT is the PEOPLE'S SEAT!

So, my fellow conservatives...have you discovered your backbone yet? Are you angry enough yet to take action? Please visit my new Candidates Blog "Conservative Promise 2010" to see great young candidates that need your support!  The National Republican Senatorial Committee is supporting nothing but Conservatives in Name Only (CINOS).  Conservative candidates cannot depend on them for any help.

Every seat in the Senate and House belongs to us!  1/3 of the Senate is up for reelection (here's a list- both parties) Support the few incumbents who are worth it and support the opponents of the rest if there is a conservative running!  Here is a list of House races by State - currently 120 unopposed Democratic seats! (House races).  You can also follow House races and donate directly at The Freedom Project.

We must donate to every worthy conservative National candidate that we can!  WE CAN CHANGE THE COURSE OF THIS NATION TO SOMETHING THAT RESEMBLES WHAT the FOUNDERS INTENDED.  WE MUST DO THIS FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS!

I am one of those post-Vietnam boomers (1953) who wanted to just live a quiet life after all the turbulence of the 60's and the rebellion my older siblings witnessed and got involved in. So, I just went about my daily life, was not involved in politics at all, in fact did not cast my first presidential ballot till my early 30's. I went to work and tried to build a simple life for myself. When I did cast that first ballot, I did it as a Republican because I knew for SURE that I was not a Democrat.

I sat here in Florida in 2000 and 2004 and sweat bullets as the media elite decided how the state would go, not waiting for the Panhandle votes to come in. I sat in abject mourning the day after the college, beach and urban areas of Florida went for Obama and declared null and void the wishes of the remainder of the state.

Now as I watch the actions of this President in the first year in office, I sit in terror of where this country is heading that I grew up loving. I only know one way to deal with terror. Stand up and fight the thing that is terrifying me.

So, the past two years I have stepped out of the Republican comfort zone of quiet disagreement and join forces with the millions of Americans who "are mad as hell and not gonna take it anymore!!". Although teaching somewhat limits my freedom to do so, I will be at every event that I can attend, I will blog, I will write letters, I will talk to people about conservative values and do what ever I can to support local conservative candidates.

Find out what is happening in your area, support the best conservative local, state and National candidates, get out of that comfortable chair, get out and fight for America!

Up and Coming Candidates - New Watchmen on the Wall of Liberty

I believe that every few generations God sends us heroes - who are willing to step outside themselves and use their god-given abilities to make true change - not just rhetoric.
For the first time in several years, I am encouraged by the men and women he is raising up to lead us out of the political and societal morass our country is mired in.

Regular every day folks are rising up and saying what you are seeing right now is NOT who America is. We are a compassionate hard-working nation that is exceptional in the history of the world as a melting pot of hundreds of nationalities and creeds who are able to live together in relative peace. We DO believe the desire for liberty is placed in every human breast and will do all we can to foster that desire throughout the world - whether the truly selfish countries of the world choose to hate us for it or not.

I believe that this courage of every day folks to march, petition, email and call their leaders in this season of discontent is giving courage to many to step out and run for office. These newcomers like Scott Brown are powerful, effective and a breath of fresh air. If we TRULY value Liberty, we MUST support them. These are STATESMEN

Here are 4 that impress the heck out of me! - please add comments with those you think are running who can turn the tide in DC. I will update this post with your names and videos!!

Lt. Col. Allen West, Florida's 22nd Congressional District - Amazing off the cuff remarks.

Marco Rubio, Florida Senatorial Candidate (Vs RINO Gov Charlie Crist for GOP nomination)

Chuck Devore, California Senatorial Candidate vs Barbara Boxer (fighting for GOP nomination)

Less Phillip, Albama's 5th Congressional District

Here's another that was recommended today - Ron Ferrin, Virginia 5th District

    Friday's Fresh Roast

Thoughts that rumbled through my head today - multi-tasking while teaching :o)

First - WHERE are the current heros for our kids? ( I was teaching about MLK, Jr)

Second - There are events that occur in this world where the pain and agony is just too great to process. The situation in Haiti is one of them. Please pray for all of the defenseless children who have been orphaned. I heard when I was coming home from work that they will be transporting thousands of Haitian children to Florida so they can survive and that many will be coming to Tampa. We welcome them. I am considering fostering at least one.

Third - America is now 234 years old - we have more than enough laws by far. Since that is the primary job of the Congress - NOT SWEEPING REFORM OF EVEY MAJOR ECONOMIC SYSTEM IN THE NATION - let's send them home until November! We cannot afford anything they want to do, we don't need any of it and we could significantly reduce the deficit by closing all their offices, making them go home and meet their constituents and communicate via teleconference. In fact - they should only be called back to DC IF they get reelected after facing their constituents or if a REAL national crisis arises - Health Care and Environment do not count. Yes I know that will put a lot of their DC aides out of work and make the lobbyists REALLy eat up their expense accounts in travel, but just maybe we could feel safe again for a little while.

Fourth - I believe Sarah Palin held her own very well with Bill and Glenn. I DON'T believe her tenure at Fox means she is out of politics - not for a microsecond! I do believe that the opportunity to be on camera regularly, to spend time around some of the great political minds that work their like Rove and Krauthammer and Hume, and the ability to package HERSELF will only aid her future endeavors.

Fifth - I am so impressed with candidates for U.S. Senate Chuck Devore (CA vs Boxer) and Marco Rubio (FL vs Gov. Crist) who have sent me multiple emails asking not for support for themselves, but asking me to support Scott Brown in Massachusetts in his battle against Democratic princess Coakley. Are they paving the way for their own support? Of course - but they are also sending their own donations and supporters to Scott Brown for the time being to aide the real cause of restoring balance to the Senate. That is what STATESMEN do.

Finally - I am impressed by the dignity of the Haitian people - which seems to grow from the strength of the family unit - something perhaps we could emulate here.

Anxiously awaiting Tuesday and getting ready to make calls to "Get out the vote for Scott!"

Yes We Can Make this country great again!

    My Most Unforgettable Character

Reader's Digest used to have a feature called something like "My most unforgettable character". Maybe they still do? Anyway, here is my take on this.
    *********************************************************

She was pretty young compared to her counterparts. But she was extremely courageous. She defended her own. She made those who were in her family from the beginning, and those who joined it to escape danger, feel safe and secure.

She took pride in herself and would not bow down to anyone who considered them self as powerful or more powerful than her. She believed that everyone counted, even when they were just a "twinkle in their daddy's eye". She revered the elderly folks who had helped raise her and protect her.

She wanted all of her children to get a good education and she expected them to learn to read, write, compute, think and reason, not just regurgitate facts. In her family were geniuses and world changers, sports heroes, great comedians, genius film-makers, authors and artists. She believed they could be great without being offensive and expected it of them.

She made mistakes. Who doesn't? Some of her mistakes were quite serious. But she was strong enough to say, "OK, I really messed up. What can I do to fix it, or keep it from happening again?"

She did everything she could to protect and defend her neighbors near and far, because its was the right thing to do. Those in her family who achieved great things, and through that achievement, great wealth, were applauded, not denigrated.

People in her family took the time to know each other. They could shout and scream at each other, but in the end respect one another and agree to disagree when they could not reach a compromise. She believed that faith played an important role in structuring society and daily life and based her house rules on principles derived from tenets of faith.

Her humor was funny, her music was great and her sports were legendary.

Yes, you guessed it, my most unforgettable character is America, as I knew her to be in the 5o's when I grew up. Yes, in spite of many traumas in my life, including in my youth, I am an idealist. I believe this nation was great and is losing its greatness by the moment.

The America I grew up in did not have reports on the nightly news of fathers killing their families and boyfriends throwing infants out car windows. I could turn to any channel on the TV and know their would be entertainment that I did not have to guard myself against.

I went to elementary school 6 hours a day including lunch and recess, was not tested every minute and somehow came out with a well-rounded education that included social studies and civics. In that vein, I believe I may have seen the last of the true statesmen in Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher. I went to a HS that was 50% Catholic, 45% Jewish, and 5% Protestant (me) where rules were expected to be followed, Old Testament Scripture was read every day, and no one was the worse for it.

I grew up in an America where we were expected to grow up, leave our parents' house, get a job and contribute to society. If you could afford a higher education, that was great. I got an allowance IF my chores were done. And those chores were daily, not now and then to get a buck. I was expected to represent my family well wherever I went in the community, and problems were kept at home. Yes, we did have problems. In fact, we put the fun in dysfunctional. But I KNEW there was something bigger and better waiting. Our home was not the Nelson's, but it was home. My neighborhood was reasonably safe because we all knew each other, the rule of law was a given, and the value of life was understood.

America's newest citizens were allowed to be born, no matter how inconvenient, what the financial challenges, or what stage of life the parents were in. The elderly were considered the pillars of society and cherished by families, even when they sometimes became a bit eccentric. I was allowed to have heroes and did not have every foible and flaw shoved in my face. And for the most part my heroes comported themselves as such, especially when children were involved. Were they perfect? Not by any means. But we were allowed to enjoy their accomplishments and think about emulating them.

We have worked through the Revolutionary War for our independence from a tyrant, fought various wars to establish our boundaries, survived a civil war that cost the lives of millions or our citizens, stopped the evil of slavery, helped the world survive through two global conflicts, lived through the deprivation of the great depression, stopped the spread of communism through Korea and Vietnam, listened to the voices of the oppressed during the Civil Rights movement and continued to fight for freedom in the Gulf wars.

And yet, all many people can do is point out our faults. What good does that do this country? Many who point out her faults have not been involved in any serious struggle in their life times. If they have, it was against the effects of the moral collapse and entitlement society we have allowed to progress.

Somehow, people from EVERY nation on earth, every possible ethnic and religious background live peaceably within our borders, and yet we are considered by many to be an intolerant and oppressive nation. We can be great again. But only if we take the time to study our history, stick to what made us great to begin with, and refuse to compromise our constitution, the most unique document on earth, in order to be just like the neighbors. They used to emulate us and dream of reaching our shores. Their people still do.

But we have decided to listen to those with no firm values and say that is the norm. We have elected them to the highest offices in the land. We have elected thieves, murderers, frauds and a few honest folk. We have listened to their doublespeak until we are ill, and yet keep electing them. We have allowed our beliefs and values to be belittled and demeaned by the media and not fought back.

If we continue in this vein, America as we knew it will cease to exist. If it does, we have only ourselves to blame.

2010 is not just important. It is life or death for this great nation. What are you doing about it?

    My Resolutions - My Resolve

Its been a soul searching few days. I don't know if anyone else is struggling with depression these days, but I have always told any kids that I work with that you have the choice to be a victim or a victor. Lately I have been succumbing to the victim side. The "my life is nothing, my country is going down the tubes, I don't like my job, I can't get out of debt, I'm lonely" side. As I attempt to rediscover my inner victor, I feel the need to state some resolves for this year.

    - I resolve to continue to try to make whatever difference I can in the direction of my country. From blogging to writing, emailing or calling my elected officials to campaigning for local candidates and promoting other conservative candidates, to donating whatever small amounts I can .

    - I resolve to spend time each day with the ONE who is truly in control, casting my cares on Him, allowing Him to guide my steps and comfort my heart.

    - I resolve to get outside myself and be more concerned about others - my life has become much too insular - I am at risk of becoming a curmudgeon - not a way I would have ever considered myself being. Lord - restore to me the JOY of my salvation and let your love flow through me to others.

    - I resolve to do my job to the best of my ability, even though I am not happy there, until I am directed to some other work. My students deserve that from me, even if the system is broken.

    - I resolve to handle my own finances with the care I would like my government to take. To pay off some small debt each month until all the small ones are gone, so I can approach the massive one that is burdening my days.

    - I resolve to not have any car accidents this year so maybe i can start actually getting in shape instead of always being in therapeutic pain relief mode :o)

    - I resolve to have HOPE. This country will only fail because good men stand by and do nothing. The people are rising up and will not allow that.

    - I resolve to have a celebration in November when the balance of power has shifted in Washington and some sanity returns.

    - I resolve to spend less time with TV and more time with books, writing and music that will stimulate my mind and soul.

Those are mine for now. What are yours?
